Pilates - Rebecca Walker
Pilates is a form of exercise developed by Joseph Pilates in the 1920’s. It has gained popularity since it was adapted by health professionals/physiotherapists as a form of rehabilitation exercise in the 1990’s. Pilates aims to rebalance the body, improving posture, strength, balance and flexibility.
The progressive functional exercises are ideal for everyone from those recovering from injury to athletes wishing to enhance performance. Pilates has been proved to be beneficial in the prevention and rehabilitation of many injuries and conditions including back pain, neck pain and arthritis. It is recommended by healthcare professionals. Individual (1-1) sessions are available at Wakefield Osteopaths. This offers a personal approach for those who require more specific rehabilitation. There is a close liaison between healthcare professionals to provide Rehabilitation Pilates in the treatment of injury.
Becky qualified as Modern Pilates Instructor in 2005 and has been teaching ever since, both classes and one to one. Qualifying as a Sports Rehabilitator in 2003 she gained a Post Graduate Diploma in Physiotherapy in 2010. She has a particular interest in Rehabilitation Pilates for those with long term conditions including chronic back pain and neurological conditions.
